What's the going rate for a 1275 engine these days? seen one for sale for £200, complete with gearbox etc, but hasn't been running for 4 years and isn't seized...was apparently running perfect before removal.

Around that price unfortunately mate. When buying an engine just assume that it will need a full rebuild.

Wahhh! £200 is cheap! Sure some people are selling them for close to twice as much as that, everyone is after 1275s atm.

every time the mini breaks, it's amazes me how quickly my family suggest getting something else "Do you not fancy selling this and buying a corsa or something?" , well no, no I don't

I addressed this issue early on in my mini ownership...... Now no one dares mention it.... Ever :) not when my mini has been the one rescuing all the so called 'reliable'cars. My mini has only broken down once in 4 years

Anyone ever done a k-series to a-series conversion on a rover 100?

  • chipmongrel360's Photo
    chipmongrel360
mostly because in my experience the k-series has been a terrible engine - overheating issues and blown head gaskets etc...plus I reckon there'd be plenty of room for a well built a-series, 1275 turbo or similar...

The K-Series is a great engine, light and powerful. Fit a new MLS head gasket and cure the overheating h/gasket problem.

If you look after a K-Series it'll be fine, they're only crap because people don't do even the most basic maintinence. The K-series is a much larger unit than an A-Series so theres no reason that it wouldn't fit... it's just a massive step backwards from even the 1.1 OHC engine
