Awesome cars

This one seems pretty solid apart from all four arches. Been sat in a barn for years (an actual barn - not someones council garage)

Turns out there are some nice roads near me. The sun seems to have brought out a bunch of nice classics, including a mini and an elf.

Nice weather up here (Scotland) too, but there is so much salt on the roads it's like a salt fog being kicked up by the cars, so I don't expect to see many classics out for a while yet. Mind you, last year they were still gritting in May..

Again, Ferrari's recent development shows promise for future races.

The way people were losing and gaining places was cool.

I wish. I'm not taking any chances with the sun, this could be our summer! Also I had a two hour gap between lectures.

Wish I had a two hour gap during servicing cars. :) Only get 1/2 hour for lunch. :(

I've never had two hours between lectures where I could just chill... very envious

Anyone ever thought about sticking a Peugeot 304 engine in a mini. Same layout as a mini engine, but a larger capacity yet lighter aluminium block...Ok maybe not, but there's one sitting in the garage begging for me to do it.

A lot easier ways to gain 75bhp even in the days when the 304 engine was made. All that work for no gain.

The problem with the 304 engine is that the diff is at the front, isn't it? So your driveshafts would be way too far forward.

Yeah. All very valid points.

Managed to get the second cylinder head off the Stag. Been sitting for 29 years and only had trouble with one stud.

Not so much luck with the stag engine today. One stud...the last stud wouldn't come out, so I'll try again tomorrow.

That was me too. I'm beginning to see a pattern with my projects. Buy a second mini, move it aside to work on third mini.
Minis are boring, play with the stag instead.

Hopefully I will go full circle and get back onto the first mini

Good luck. Stuck head killed my stag engine!

What makes this so bad was that my dad parked up an immaculate stag some 20 years ago after restoring it, with a fully rebuilt engine on just 2000 miles. Now it's in a pretty poor state and the engine is seized.
Every year he says he's going to get it running again but I've had enough of that so I've decided to start for him.

I had two 10 ton bottle jacks across the vee, engine hoist on the head, wheels off the ground and jackhammer on the stud head. Like this for 10 days. Managed to get 5 thou feeler under the head. Pal in stag club did a swap out for a good recon engine. He drilled out the studs with some fancy jig he had. Lovely car but a bugger of an engine.

In just 9 days time I can get the mini out of the garage, and drive it for the first time in 57days...I've been counting.

Note to self: ask how much the drinks will be before purchasing a round of 8 vodka lemonades for £50...
