The composite one I had started leaking coolant before I had even started the engine, copper one I fitted after worked fine. I'd go copper! Just make sure the mating faces are perfect

Built a few engines with the 450 gasket. No issues. Preparation is the key to a good gasket change.

Do not use BGA head gaskets and if you use Payen purchase the Head Gasket separate as the ones that come in the Head Gasket sets are not of the same quality. That is our findings. The BK450 is a great gasket :)

Dumb question, can you use a pre verto clutch plate in a verto clutch?

-
CAU998
No, you shouldn't have any issues with clutch depression, as that's due to the diaphragm. But it could be more grabby due to the lack of springs on the plate itself, which soften the uptake?

out of all the minis I've driven over they years mine has always had, imo a far too soft clutch, so I can't see it being much of an issue.

All sorted now with the correct verto plate thanks to good old Guessworks.

Fired my half built banger racer up for the first time in 6 months earlier this evening. Couldn't believe it started after only turning over a few times and didn't require a jump.

When you spend a Saturday evening stripping down a set of disc brakes, instead of doing what regular people consider to be fun.

Also got about 4 different types of grease on my hands and I couldn't find any hand cleaner :P

Swapping the engine out instead?

I can imagine... Plus there would be all the dirt and crap on the subframe. I'll stick to refurbishing simpler components for now :)

That moment when you have an awesome evening at your friend's garage then get home to yours, knock a light lens off the bench and smash it. Yes. That.

Got a s/h TR7 light on the way, but it's still a tenner I'd rather not have had to pay out...

I was flattening a bracket
it was late at night so didn't want to hammer it ,
so the vice was used to reduce the angle to almost flat
it was taking the pi$$ thinking I could get the bend out that way
totally abused it - good new ones are £££
so chinese it is

Does it not recognise yours then?
Feb 16 2017 07:08 PM -
1984mini25
on 2 local ish motorfactors its not recognised, but on the one it is you go though all the menus to find no parts available.
Or in the case of Halfords I go to the selection of parts I'm after and then wants to search using the reg.
Feb 16 2017 09:37 PM -
1984mini25
But the parts I'm after are universal and non standard for mine anyway. I just didn't want to have to spend half a day doing a lap of Mk because one motorfactors cheaper or doesn't have anything. I think I'll just stick with pot luck on eBay.

Feeling annoyed when people say they want something you have for sale then never show up and terminate all communication. A simple I've changed my mind would be nice.

No it was users on here unfortunately.

Or turn up, fondle and leave there mucky finger prints all over it and then decide they don't want it and might 'reconsider' if still for sale in 6 months time.
If you aren't happy buying something second-hand, then feck off, open your wallet a bit wider and buy a new one.

Or an ebay auction winner turns up to collect and says they're a few pound short on them and is that ok? I point them towards the cash point 5 minutes walk away!
