I actually had a look last week. There are a few close by, but the rent is the same as an entire apartment!?

Are they in high demand there then? Here you can rent a garage for about £35 a month

Wow, even converting that to Rand it is still cheap. The ones I've seen here are about R2000 (~£110) for a 3m x 3m garage. It could be that there aren't that many self storage type places close by, so limited supply drives up the prices.
