Just tried to jump start the Mini, as the battery was totally flat after not being used for 2 months.... Anyway, I hook it up to my Dads big diesel saloon, plenty of power I thought. Got his engine running, then got into the Mini. All lights came on as expected, reading 13 volts on the gauge. I turn the key, and it hardly turns the engine over, barely anything. So I tried my Clio, which has a new battery, same again... Why? Any advice?

If your original battery is completely knackered ie internally shorted, then it can short the other battery trying to start it, remove the mini battery earth and try starting it without your original battery connected

Only very cheap common jump leads, they did get rather hot at the crocodile clip ends during use however? The battery finished charging today, will give it a shot tomorrow and let you guys know :)
