Is it worth replacing my 88 thermostat with an 82 or 74 if my engine is getting too hot?

An engine runs at its best around 88 degrees, my point is that if the car is overheating then there is an issue. Having the thermostat open sooner will only mask it.

Well i dont know if it is overheating, it just felt very hot to the touch
