Just a shot in the dark really...

How many miles per liter does a mini go at 4000rpm on the motorway?? i drive on 13`s aswell...

I think my mini has a petrol leak or its just a very thursty car!! a full tank takes me about 120miles, tank hold about 18 liters!!

If anyone can help!!

120miles * 1.609 = 193km

18l / 193km
it is approx. 10l/100km (if you really emptied your tank)

that's not too bad for your mini i would guess. gives about 28-29mpg

but how comes that your tank only holds 18l when its full??? that sounds pretty small...

I thought all mini tanks hold the same!! how much does yours hold then???

Maybe its full with something else... and my needle never shows that it is really full, just a little under the line!!

The small tank (5.5 g) is 24 l. The large tank (7.5 g) is 34 l. You are either not filling to the top or not emptying it enough!

if you push the fuel nozzle right the way in and fill it till it clicks, you are loosing a good gallon of fuel capacity.

The trick is to do it till clicks, then pull it almost all the way out, and fill until its just underneath the neck (or just until it clicks again if you have the unleaded tank with the little flap).

Hope that makes sense!

how much is a gallon though?

still can't get my head round these imperial sizes...

however... my tank seems to be the larger of the two...

...So the way ive understood that, minis have a large and small tank!!??

i must have the small one then!! there is no way mine holds 33 litres!!

But what i did notice today is when im sitting in the driving seat the petrol needle is not eye level, so when i stopped i went down eye level to the tacho instruments and there was a huge difference!!

Silly question time, ive heard in the past its not a good idea to run low on petrol because it pulls all the C**p up in to the engine!!??? id like to run mine a bit low to see how much goes in...

The first half tank when i full tank goes sooooo quick!! maybe like 100km, and the last half sort of goes a bit slowly!! is there any reason for this!! this also happens in my 406...or is it a german thing!! ??

is it because of the shape of the tank maybe? This is just a guess, someone might be able to inform you differently.

it seems to be the way that the sender units are wound. in the mini its just like wire coiled around some plastic to create a variable resistor.you can tell if you have the big or the small tank by looking into the boot. if the tank does not protrude past the opening for the boot lid then its 5.5gal, else its 7.2gal

i would say add a decent filter just after your fuel tank, like one of those glass ones and shouldnt have any problem with the CARP. Altho at the end of the day i dont think letting it run down would make much difference surely. CARP dont stay floating does it? that would be impossible.

its a common myth that running your tank low sucks CARP up into the engine.

CARP's don't float, they generally like to sit on the bottom, so any CARP's in your tank would get sucked up straight away, not a problem in small quantities like that.

the problem is the petrol gauge in injection minis suck, mine shows empty when it is obviously half full. Its just something you get used to.
