The old, unlatched seats worked perfectly in practice. your bum's that low they never tipped when you were sat on them, and as said, you had the seatbelt to hold you down anyway. You could use bolts just as effectively if you don't have a welder.

I would bolt or weld those seats in double quick.
It might not be you that causes the crash - but if you have one you are asking to meet your
own bonnet head on in a way you would never have planned for...
