I have have excessive tyre wear on my 1997 MPI. I don't do wheel spins!!

I had brand new Yoko A539's fitted to the front, back in March this year. At the same time i had new ball joints and wheel bearings.The Tyres have excessively worn on the inside tread, so bad that there actually bald.

My tyres always go like this and usually only last 15 months, but 6 months is ridiculous. The garage informed me that worn ball joints were causing the tyre wear problem hence i had the ball joints done. It seems to have made the problem 10X worse. Oh and the wheel bearing on the drivers side have gone again. (I've gone through 5 set of front wheel bearings in 4 years).

My tyre pressure's are normal and correct.

The only thing i've noticed is the top of the drivers wheel is angled inwards slightly, make the bottom edge go slightly out. Would this be due to incorrect adjustment of the tie rods?

Would appreciate anyone's advice.

Had the tracking checked 2 months ago, when i first started to notice the excessive wear on the inside. Apparently it was fine and no adjustment needed.

A bit too much negative camber maybe? Do you have standar, ST Neg or adjustable bottom arms?

Have you looked at the ball joints? On mine the bottom one was worn which didn't do my any favours!

*i know you say you have new ones but i mean have you checked them since, just to see if its now all wobbly!*

Top and bottom ball joints replaced both sides, 6 months ago.

No i haven't checked them since. How do i test?

Ah but 6 months of running 13" wheels is plenty of time to kill some ball joints! (i'm assuming they are 13" rather than 12" ones!), when my 13's were bald on the inside, the bottom joints were both in dire need of attention, and one of the bearings had gone

*technical way! - put the wheel on like you was going to drive (ie all nuts done up tight), jack it up, hold the wheel at the top and bottom of the tyre and try to rock it (if you can, get someone else to have a look at it), if it moves, theres a problem, may be the bearing or the ball joint, but if you get someone else to rock it or watch, you can see where the movement is, if its solid then it may just be down to poor adjustment!*

Has someone fitted Metro Hubs etc. at sometime, I believe they are different and *male chicken* up all of the angles???

castor wouldnt affect the tread wear like that - excessive camber would however...

the tie-rods affect the castor angle, (which can affect the camber)... what you are describing is negative camber...

if all parts are standard, then excessive negative camber is a result of the front being low..
front being low, is a result of the suspension cones collapsing (really they have a 10year life)
also as the car lowers, the toe out increases.. (tracking) thus increasing the inside wear...

so:

check the height of the car

It has lowered spax adjustable shocks fitted by previous owner.

So i guess that could explain it! How do i correct it with it's current suspension set up?
