Do you mean what is the largest turbo A series you can build or what is the largest engine I can fit and turbo in my mini?
You don't need larger capacity with a turbo A series. The fastest uk one runs 13.4 sec 1/4 miles with 1293cc. If you are into engine swaps, then you want the 16v mini forum...

I think we need more info on your plans mate!
I've seen loads from bored out mini engines to big vauxhall and honda lumps to jet engines!
How much performance do you want?

Either that or a turbo hyabusa engine! Can be wound up to about 500bhp and only weight about 80kgs for the engine and gearbox!!!!
One of the best solutions for power and weight! but if you want drivabilty forget it!!
You'll need to say what you want from the engine. There no real anwser to whats the biggest engine? It all depends what you want.
I sure given enough money you could squeeze a w16 quad turbo in a mini!! but thats not really what you want to hear. :nugget:

What needs to be done to make them fit?

You need to get a specially built subframe, and some custom made driveshafts. The wiring loom also has to be wired in to either parts of the minis loom or completely swapped over.

I think your main factor is Budget.. If you could give us a Ballpark figure of what u have / plan to spend on an engine conversion we can advise you on what is the most optimum power for what u can afford.
The typical prices are something like
Metro Turbo £600-1000
Vtec can be done for £4000-5000
Bike Conversions £7k - £10k
but obviously depending on what you can fabricate or get second hand will very much affect the cost.

i would say a v-tec, not too dear or hard to get hold of, and give great power and reliability!
i dont think this has ever been done before, but earlier i came to the idea of a Renault 5 GT turbo engine in a mini, they are fairly small blocks and give awesome performance!!
