Sticking a vauxhaul lump in a mini will cost about 2k, a Vtec and you won't get much change from 4-5k, a bike engine and your looking at at least 10k.

And I don't think there is such thing as an easy conversion!

There is nothing easy about fitting a completely different engine into a Mini. If you want easy and cheep, then go for the turbo A series engine. The easiest of the lot me thinks, after all it will fit in a standard subframe use standard driveshafts and brakes with a little modification to the bulkhead or body.
