OK here goes
I have just put the distributor back in and she wont start i have set it to TDC (i think) by getting no4 inlet and exhaust on the rock but when i look at the dizzy the rotor arm is at 25 to (as if it were a clock) now my question is reading haynes it says that if its at tdc it should be pionting at no1 does this mean no1 on the dizzy cap or no1 cylinder
OR even more likely am i just plain stupid and got it all wrong
Please HEEEEEEELP.
Pete

No 1 cylinder is the one nearest the radiator, you want it so you can wobble the rockers on that cylinder, (both valves will be shut)

No 1 on the dizzy is normally about top right as you look at it.

And yes you want the rotor arm pointing to that lead on the dizzy.

And just to be clear, the firing order is 1 - 3 - 4 - 2 with the leads going on the dizzy as follows

1 = top right

3 = top left

4 = bottom left

2 = bottom right

In addition to what's been said above, download my PDF on static timing:
http://home.mindspri...taticTiming.pdf

If necessary, remove your dizzy drive gear and re-position it (see Haynes).

Trust you fixed it by refitting the dizzy with the rotor arm pointing the other way? Just moving the plug leads would be a bad idea.

It's only a bad idea if and when someone other than yourself works on your car. If you have the leads arranged such that #1 plug is going to fire when #1 piston is near the top on its firing stroke... everything will be fine. However, it will confuse the daylights out of a mechanic not familiar with your car.
