Mini City E
1992:

So I now have a non-leaky heater matrix, a working blower, heat coming out of the vents and demisting my windows (yay!) and an open plastic container to catch the drips which vary in rate below the heater matrix pipes. I have screwed the screws in tight as I can, put two restraining clips round the tubes, and yet still there is red liquid oozing from somewhere around the junction. It sounds like such an odd question but am I missing something? Am I meant to use a gel or a is there meant to be something rubber below the securing plates? If you think maybe something isn't tight enough tell me how I can make it tight enough please!

Do you have the heater matrix with the two alloy stubs pointing upwards?

Those stubs corrode very badly and tend to leak. Unfortunately they are no longer available (NLA) so you would either need to find good secondhand ones (difficult), get something made to replace them (not too difficult if you know someone with a lathe) or you can now get replacment heater matixes that have the outlets as part of the matrix (see ebay).

Thank you - actually I have pretty much solved the problem - using superglue! The coolant was seeping up through the rubber seal of the matrix around the outside of the metal cylinders - so I superglued it all together and hey presto it works. The stubs are now permanently connected to the matrix - but surely they should be anyway - would have saved me days of agro!

There should be a rubber o ring between around the bottom of each stub, just below the raised shoulder that the securing plate bears on.

If superglue has solved your problem great (until you need to replace the matrix again and get the stubs back >_< )

I'm hoping that I will never have to replace the matrix again - please dear God! Lighting doesn't strike twice I hope!

The rubber rings were there, they were obviously just being a bit *rubbish*.
