Sorry folks but I've got a 1984 Vanden Plas Metro, automatic. I was hoping a mini expert might shed some light on how to get my starter motor off. It was easy enough to undo the bolts but the unit cannot be withdrawn as the oil filter head is in the way. Before I start dismantle half the engine, has anyone else with an automatic mini with a cartridge type oil filter come across this problem? My best guess is I'm going to have to take off the complete oil filter assembly.

You should have buckets of room... or is it an inertia starter as opposed to pre-engaged...

Its inertia and butts right up to the bit the oil filter attaches to. The oil filter is sort of canister type not the usual screw on and is horizontal, so there is no room at all. Very awkward.
