As im removing the engine soon, its probably the best time to tidy it up, reseal it etc. While it runs fine and doesnt seem to leak much at all, i want the peace of mind before i put it back in, so my question is this:

What gaskets across the engine / clutch etc should i renew and where might i source them ?

Dont get me wrong, im not being lazy, i just get bogged down by the array of options available and having not done anything like this before, i just want to get the right parts

My plan is to use gunk degreaser, wire brushes, wire wool and lots of warm soapy water to clean the engine ready for painting. I dont know what paint i should use for this, colour isnt a factor right now as i will decide that at a later point.

Also, as the engine and subframe are coming out, what mountings / bush's etc will i need to get, as i want to renew any perishable items like that to.

Cheers :w00t:

We've just fitted a replacement engine, seals and gaskets we did were

Head gasket
Valve stem seals
lapped valves in whilst at it
thermostat

drive shaft seals
gear selector seal

plus the various gaskets to seal the diff to the gearbox

the pushrod cover plates rear of the engine.

replace byepass hose with silicone hose

checked water pump.
Also fitted a duplex timing chain, so another gasket there plus crank seal

Also worth considering are the 3 core plugs along the front of the engine.

http://www.minispares.com is a good source

We actually have a mini specialist near where we live so tend to pop in and just rattle off parts to him, and he plonks them on the counter.

Quite simply, if it don't pis5 water or oil out then leave well alone... You will probably cause more problems by taking things off and resealing than just leaving asis...
