Mini Minor - 1961
Fitted with MG Metro 1275 - Maniflow Exhaust - electronic MG dizzy - HIF44 - K&N - Unleaded
I'd really like some input from anyone that has had their car "setup" on a rolling road. Real facts please.
The thing is I believe I have set the timing and mixture as best I can with the info and tools I have available. I'm sure the carb has the original MG needle and spring too. I really want it checked properly though as I suspect the unleaded head , exhaust and filter will alter the settings required to have it running at it's best.
I'm not after pub talk bhp but a car that runs correctly and is not going to be running too hot , too lean etc etc.
Question is , can the rolling road session really do this ? and how exactly ? what do they do and what tools and info will they likely need.
I will be contacting my local RR soon but I just wanted to get a feel for what I should be asking for.
many thanks in advance.

Firstly ask your rolling road place if they are familiar with the Mini / A series engine and working with SU's and distributor based ignition systems...
There's absolutely no point going to somewhere which is expecting to plug in a laptop and tinker with a few parameters.
A good tuner will go through things from plug gaps, mixture levels, timing advance at different loads and speeds, needle profiles, springs etc etc...
What you don't want is a power run.
Assuming it's one of the last MG Metro engines, between 40 & 50 at the wheels is what I would expect, more and it's a pretty good engine...
book figure when new was 73 at the fly.

I have been working on my mini for the last few months and although I can set it up to have it driving nicely in my own workshop, once its been on the rollers I know its going to improve.
Have a look on google for rolling road do's and dont's.
If your engine is set up as near a dammit then the rolling road will ensure its correct, plus you have the opportunity to see exactly whats happening when your driving.
As said above dont go simply for the power run get your engine set up correctly, take it away put some miles on it prior to any heavy and hard driving.

Peter Baldwin down in Wimpole is the MAN!
works out of Wilshires Garages LTD
My car ran good before going in to see him but after the RR it was a totally different car.
It really feels like a weight has been lifted off the car as it pulls so smoothly
when i went in it was getting 70something but came out with 97bhp @6000 rpm
it deff makes a difference. but you need someone who knows what they are doing
good luck
