My mini is an mpi and I know this should prob be in injection specific but nobody really looks in there and I kind of need urgent help-sorry!
I just went out to start up the mini after 3 days of it being sat outside and it won't start at all.
The engine isn't turning over at all, it just doesn't seem to fire up. When I turn the ignition round full the engine makes a weird click click clicky metallic noise but doesn't fire up!
At first I thought maybe it was a lack of fuel because I was very low on fuel when I parked up on Thursday, just put 4.5 litres from a can in though and nothing changed.
I'm almost positive it's not a flat battery, I've had one twice before so my battery isn't brilliant but when the battery has been completely dead in the past not even the srs warning light comes on and that came on just now. And the second time the battery still had a tiny bit of power so it made the typical flat battery noise of attempting to turn over. Right now everything came on, radio, lights work. It just didnt turn over and just made the clicky tapping noise?!
The immobiliser worked because the alarm light turned off. The oil and battery lights stayed on however.
I don't even know what to check I havent a clue about engines please can someone help! I was supposed to be at work which is 35mins away at 8am!

clicking....assumin im thinking along the right tracks...means a relay instead of wing mounted solenoid....if the battery is fine could be a bad wire...as said above could be naff starter...if its pre engaged the solenoid might just be stuck..who knows realy
The clicking (which can happen on both starter types) indicates that the starter solenoid (present on both systems, inertia and pre-engaged) is having problems This is usually caused by a flat battery or a bad earth, or combination of both.
This problem can happen on either systems, Being as you have an MPI, it's running a pre-engaged starter
Right bump didnt work found a neighbour with leads and its started.
dont you mean it did work?
Think he means a Bump start didn't work but luckily a Jump start did.
glad you got it sorted chap. Since it's all solved, I'll close this topic
