Hey guys and girls,

I'm doing this as a favour, I have a mate at uni who wants to make a documentary about mini's for his project. He is coming on a run with us to film and talk to people about their views and experiences with mini's (he's only just got his on the road).

He's trying to get the idea commissioned at the moment but he keeps coming up against "well there is already a lot of documentary's about mini's" So I'm really looking for what would you like to see in a documentary about the car we all love?? and also what could he do to make it different from "all the rest"?? (baring in mind WE are the target audience)
This could also make it on to t.v!!!!!

Any input is greatly appreciated!! >_<

Hey

Sounds like a great project. Personnally I'd like to see documentry on the building/Restoration side of things...seems to be plenty of show and shine type docs or racing one but no alot else.

Hope this helps

Sven ;o)

It'd also be good to see the Minis used in a range of ways, i.e. with rally action, race action and just being driven on the road normally.

Yeah he could try to find someone who's currently on a rebuild and incorporate some of that in to it

So show the range of what a mini is capable of?

Most DVD's now seem to centre on the car and the engine etc etc.
Maybe something like the people who support the cars, the owners, the clubs, the meeting places, mini friendly roads, oldest mini's in daily use, different variants such a commercial's, estates, clubmans etc etc.
Loads of different things that can make a DVD different.
Try looking at some Autotest minis they are really fun to watch.

All the hard work that we put into them, repairing them etc. Which lets face it, does happen quite often!
Show one that's been restored back to the original spec, and one that's had some mental engine rebuild or something?

Show some of the funny/positive sides to Mini ownership, like how easy the are to park, and how you can park almost anywhere! I parked mine in the trolley bay things at Tesco's when it was raining once, as it was a shelter. The staff in the carpark just laughed. >_<
Also show how you don't need to go fast to have fun. Yeah you can throw them into corners, and they are pretty nippy for an old 1litre, but there's more to driving that just racing around B roads.

Right some really good ideas there, so maybe look at making it a bit tongue in cheek as well as being factual?
I do like the parking idea! and he was thinking of looking into the people behind the mini's sort of thing.

Any more anyone?

That's a really good idea! I'm not sure about what time scale he has to do this (will speak to him tomorrow about that) I thought a night at ace cafe would be good for a small section but being around the manchester area it's quite a trip to make there and back! It's real shame that there isn't as much going on up north as there is down south.

Well that's part of whole documentary, It's to show that it isn't just 1 type of person that owns mini's. The mini is a world icon I don't think their are many places in the world where if you mention the mini people don't know what your talking about, The mini is part of so many peoples lives. Take this forum for example, We have people from many countries around the world and from all different walks of life who are members it's not just the old fella who can't bar to part with his car or the 17 year old who needed a cheap 1st car. It's also about the following it has and the culture surrounding it and of the people who drive them!

Oh and gaz, Accy stanley? who are they???

It's been done in the 1974 horror flick "The Living Dead At A Manchester Morgue" (aka 'Let Sleeping Corpses Lie').
