Hello everyone, been meaning to start this for a while and have now eventually got round to it. I've been lurking around the forum for a while not saying an awful lot but getting lots of useful help and information. So I thought I would give something back and put up the progress of mine and my dad's project.

He is a 1977 Mini 1275GT in white which was a barn find back in late 2006 (can't believe its that long ago!) as you can see he was in a pretty sorry state when we found him. Unfortunately there was no engine with the car, which diminished our hopes of restoring the car back to original. The 3 to 1 manifold in the picture suggests a pretty hot engine at some stage.

After bolting on some borrowed front hub assemblies and a short trailer ride he was home. A quick wash and the bodywork came up just like new!

:) You're idea of 'like new' bodywork is a lot different from mine, chap :)

The bodywork at least looks pretty nice and original, and it's a nice bonus to have the webasto sunroof still there :ermm:

Good luck with it chap, looks like it wont need tooo much, but you know how minis are, one rusty panels leads to another :o

look forward to the progress ^_^

We spent the first half of 2007 slowly stripping everything off the car. The plan was to keep everything organised in boxes. We managed the boxes part, though none of it is organised!

We also bought a donor convertable 1275GT, in hindsight we probably should have waited longer and bought something a little better, but then I'd feel bad about destroying something that wasn't beyond repair.

It may look nice in the pics, but further inspection revealed near non-existant rear subframe, botch-job electrics, filler everywhere you can imagine, including helping to hold the passenger door hinges in place!

It has given us some useful parts so has probably paid for itself overall.

Eventually by summer 2007 he was ready to be sent off to be shot-blasted.

Thanks for all your comments :D

Sir Cheat: yes we are planning on keeping it white, the underside, inner wheel arch etc are also going to be white. I don't like it on some minis where its black all over the sills.

The blue one is still sat in my garden rusting away even more, much to my mums delight! I don't think theres really anything much useful left on it. I was thinking of turning the front end into a BBQ, could be a silly summer project!

nice one, the sand blasting doesn't leave anything to the imagination.
