Am I Perhaps Wrong That My Car Is Not Modified?!

The thing with a sleeper is that visual impact on the page is more difficult to achieve over say, a six page feature (as is the norm in MM). Because of this I was trying to find a few more themes I could add into any potential story. To this end I asked if you'd built the engine (a cracking little small bore), which you hadn't, so that avenue was reduced. But given that you've built everything else and the car is used daily, I said I'd look at doing a shorter feature - say a four page. This is something we do now and again.
Don't get me wrong, I really like the car. Certainly it knocks spots of anything I own, and it looked great tooling round Brands a few months back. I'd be mortified if anyone thought I was slating their Mini - I've been an enthusiast for many, many years and appreciate the work that people put into them.
Mags will always have their flagship cars that dominate the column inches, but that doesn't mean there isn't room for the home-built daily drivers too. The latest MM cover car, for instance, is a home-built, home-sprayed 1275 GT.

Edit: Didn't read page 2, Jeff's already posted

Edit 2: Really though, actually I think you're being quite silly. Everyone is proud of the mods they've done to their own cars but most other people won't give a chuff about your personal touches

Standard arches (i think), standard 12" wheels. May have a painted bootlid and a few other bits and bobs but its just another mini. Dont take that in the wrong way, it done to your taste and how you want it, no bodykit or big ice.
I dont know what the big deal is really, everyones tastes and opinions are different, it shouldnt matter though, as long as your like your mini thats all that matters.

well after having no response from mark robinson after i initially sent the pictures in, and tehn again when i sent them to you, which apparently didnt turn up. it was the way you said about it being standard which irked me. as if i should have spent countless thousands on it.Rozzer, you've taken what I said way out of context. You asked me if I thought it was worth a feature and when weighing it up I said that it looks quite standard/stock in appearance.
personally i am bored with newschool as are a lot of my friends.
quite a few of which were there first time around, and still keep the spirit alive.
1 suggested that there be a section simply for the home builder, for those that dont have endless money, and those that can do it themselves just as good if not better than the professionals.

I really agree on you on this, on having a home built section, i dont have endless money either, and mine is used everyday, and i like when i do bits a time.
I dont like that mini world just does like the most expensive and best minis.
Your mini is great really like it,

As far as I know none of them have been in either magazine (apologies if I am wrong) and all of them merit it as much as yours.
I buy the magazines for minis that have some inspirational/aspirational qualities or some history special to that particular car.
Some are not modified at all and I admire the attention to detail and dedication that these people have.
Yours , and the vast majority of minis on the road today, mine included are somewhere between totally stock and totally modded (R1/Honda VTEC etc)
Why should a magazine put something in their mag that can be seen at any mini club meet across the country.
They rely on people thumbing through the pages at the newstand looking for inspiration and if they put up cars that dont stand out then they wont
sell as many magazines.
I really hope you dont take this as me "dissing" your car because Im not.

I don't want to argue here, but that's your assumption. By me saying it looked quite stock, you immediately think it needs a bodykit and uber bucks spent on it to make it a feature car. That is not the case.
I'm not sure where this newschool thing comes from - I don't think that fairly reflects the mag content at all. Of course we will have the odd aspirational or hybrid car, but the latest mag for example is not like that at all. The main feature cars are the aforementioned home-built GT, a hot Moke, a retro Mk IV and a teenager with a works-themed Mk I. Not much in the way of bodykits and Vtecs there, but they will still appear from time to time.
I like the home builder idea by the way - we cover this with our 'On the Job' feature, but there's always scope for more.

You can't just go crying to everyone until you get your way. This is a common attitude these days, and I don't like it at all

In fact normally the people you're complaining about wouldn't even bother replying to such moans, we're lucky that with Mini Mag Jeff and Craig will actually come on the forum and respond to be honest.
Tardy edit: Don't take my comments as a slant on your car or work either Tel - you know I love Fifi!

Though I have to say as I've seen Fifi plenty and spoken to you about the work you've done to her, she is a great piece of workmanship and design and no, she isn't standard in that she most definitely didn't come from Rover loking like that but she isn't a BAM!! Look at me car, far more subtle and classy in my opinion and looks better than those hugely modified minis, again just my opinion.
Personally I do think there is high emphasis on the more heavily, in your face modified minis in the mini magazines out there and I personally actually like to see those that look more subtle at first glance but when you take a closer look you can see how much time and effort has been put in to make it what it is. It's nice to see minis out there that make you think "hmm...not quite standard but what is it that makes me think that" and yours defnitely does!
It'd be good to see more subtle minis in the mags but if it doesn't happen I wouldn't take it as a personal insult to your mini, your work and taste!
