My son is getting an X-Box for Xmas.

I hear the latest ones don't have this problem?

I hope.

They appear to be more reliable then before but they can still have problems. Especially if you don't give them enough space to breath.

Yeah make sure it doesn't get too hot and the fan at the back is not covered up or anything.

don't do the towel wrap thing... it doesn't work, and could potentially kill it completely... then i'm not sure if microsoft will send you a new one...

Hello there, I had this problem with our xbox. i went onto xbox.com and asked for repair online, you have to put in your serial number and your name to who it is registered and you print off a ups returns form and they pick it up when you call ups.

In all fairness it didnt take long, and i could track where the xbox was all along.

I think about 3 weeks in total, BUT mine was out of warranty but they still fix it because they know it is their fault!

good luck with it but honestly dont use the towels for too long, this can cause more damage. send it off, forget about it for a fortnight over xmas then it will be back before you know it .

I have had mine back now for about 6 months and my twins are on it on xbox live constantly and so far so good.!

Just give the online thing a try. My friend just got a brand new Xbox after his CD drive refused to read games. It was only gone for a week and came back with a letter of apology about the breakdown and 1 months free Xbox Live.

All you need is a box to put it in, they organize the courier to collect and return.

Make sure you don't send off your HD though, because you may end up with a different one back.
