I've just got some speaker pods for the front with alpine speakers. I currently have four speakers powered by an amp. The plan was to use the head unit to power the two front’s ones until I get another amp. However when I connected them, there was no output/sound from the head unit.
Does the internal amp in the head unit switch off or should there be an option in the menus?

How are they connected to the headunit? Through the ISO? Have you got a picture of the connection?

Yes there connected through the a standard ISO connection. The head unit powered the 4 four speakers before I fitted the amp and it worked fine.

Have you tried altering the front/rear set up to give more power to the front. As you have an amp on the rear, they will be REALLY loud in comparison to the front, so even when you hear the back clear, the front may be not "getting enough Juice " for you to hear them !! Just a thought.

I tried disconnecting the remote lead and the rca cables so that the amp didn't turn on but this didn't work. Does anyone know if the remote turn on lead for the amp should turn the internal amp off in the headunit? What else can I do to power the two front speakers without another amp?
Thanks

the amp output on a h/u is not an either/or set up.

you can run 4 speakers AND amps if you want to.

have you tried connecting the speaker directly into the iso connector on the h/u? (just hold wires in pin holes) and see if it works.

if not it sounds like you may have goosed the HU. :dontgetit:

Yes the speakers are fine, I tested them with the amp that I fitted to power the other speakers. I think it must be the headunit that has given up.

Just wondering if anyone has fitted two 8" subs into a speaker board? I'm hoping to do this over the christmas holidays if its possible.
Thanks

try the Fuse...on the amp and the H/U

Speaker board as in parcel shelf? saw a load of speakers in there, i am not 100% sure (not say they will or wont) that two 8" subs will fit in there comforably...

they will fir but only if you angle the bottom of the board further into the car (so cones are aimed at the seats).

I am running 2 8" pioneer 3 ways as subs in that exact set up - but am looking to remove them so the speaker board woul be up for grabs

If the fuse was blown in the H/U, would it work at all? A speaker board under the rear seats is what I have. How come your removing the speakers?

I have 2 vibe 6x9's set up for bass, but they wern't great so I wired up a 10" sub today at college and the sound is so much better. The plan is to keep the back seats and a free boot by fitting 2 8" subs under the seats in a speaker board. Has anyone else done this? I know its a tight as the board is only 8" high.

That’s just what I’m planning to do, but try and squeeze them into the speaker board. I was going to buy different more powerful 6x9's but after fitting the 10" sub temporally, the sound is much clearer and harder. How much was did it cost to get that made Bert?
