Hi.
As you all probably know, z-cars has a new kit using a volvo engine. Its a 2 liter turbo engine, developing 250 hp when chipped. The price of the engine is cheaper than the v-tec and produces about the same power.
What other advantages can you see? Has anyone tried it?

All comments will be welcome.

Many thanks, Gonzo

One advantage for the Vtec might be that there are loads of after market parts, I'm not sure what the after market looks like for the Volvo. I don't remember seeing that many volvo tuners here in the states, don't know about the other side of the pond.
Cheers,
Jeff

Honda motors are also pretty easy to come by in the states.

its basically a four cylinder version of the focus st engine
in sweden there are loads of tuners doing good things with them
to me it makes sense to choose a good motor that isnt being used by every tom dick and harry driving the cost of the donor motor up thats what happened with the type R engines we were using them in 2001/2 when they first came out then everybody jumped on the bandwagon

Hi
I'll post some pictures on the week end, working away at the moment.

Only received the kit a couple of days before xmas and have'nt fitted the engine/frame yet but first impressions are very good, it's the same frame as the Honda but with different suspension arms.

There seems to be plenty of tuning options just depends on your budget, I plan to stick with the standard engine with a charge cooler at the moment, the S40 T4 is 200bhp so hopfully with Z cars exhaust and a good air filter I may get a little more and then upgrade the ecu and turbo once I've had it on the road.

I did ask about the T5 engine but apparently its too big to fit in a mini.

Neil

Just a few more cuestions:

I've asked Neil how was the proyect going and it's still not on the road, so no opinion about the handling and driving of the car. Anyone?

In his opinion the electric are a pain; does anyone know if z-cars has developed an specific loom for these engine¿?

Is the S40 the only volvo with these engine? What other engines would you suggest? The t5 has some more power but Neil was told it wouldn't fit...
Any suggestions?

Is the tubular structure of the kit MSA approved?

Thank you!
