I am having a real nightmare with my filler cap. I have tried to add a thicker seal but this hasn't worked. I got a new non vented cap but as I go round a roundabout I can see the petrol literally pouring out. It has ruined my paintwork along the seam and under the cap. Can someone give me another idea of how to stop the fuel coming out. the problem with the extra seal is it is too tight to get on and it still didn't stop the leak.

I cannot believe I am the only one with this problem am I ?

Well no but you've been given all the usual fixes. Have another good look at the filler neck and make sure it isn't deformed. Also make sure it isn't simply perforated by rust under the neck seal. It can't be too many other things really.

thanks Dan, there is no rust, the neck was a little deformed but my brother straightened it out, made it round again. The new cap does feel a little loose but I don't know how to make it tighter without adding another seal.

there must be some other way

Well the drastic option would be to fit a brand new fuel tank?

the latest is a new non-vented filler cap, with 2 seals ( I bought 2 caps). It goes on very tight, I need a pair of long nose pliers to turn the key ( I go really slow because if it breaks that would be very bad ).

It still leaks fuel when full but it seems to be stemmed. new rule when filling, only 3/4, I hope it's ok.

I have been trying to touch up the paint along the seem using a halfords kit, I gave it 2 coats of the grey primer, and so far 3 coats of the colour. It is water based and I have been using a heater to warm up the area between coats to help it dry. the metal is warm but not hot.

Can I use a little tcut after its all dry to level off the top layer, or should I use the clear laquer? not to sure how its going to look, I hope its not too bad
