Going into town tomorrow and buying some stonechip for the underside of my front flip, do I need to primer the fibreglass first?

Yes, etch primer works on fibreglass.

Necessary before stonechip?

I could do with saving a bit of money on it but I don't mind if it's necessary.

Well it does help the stonechip to adhere. Try it without if you like, but I wouldn't want to risk it peeling.

If it peels then I've gotta take it all off and buy more stone chip, so it'd make sense to etch primer first! Saves me the possible hassle.

Thanks!

it wont peal at all.just rough the area with 60 grit sand paper then clean it to get all the dust off and it will stick like sh*t to a blanket.

your be waisting your money and time with primer.

ive been using fiberglass for the last 12 years making hot rods and its never pealed or chipped off.

hope this helps and saves you some money.

Cheers Red top.

I'm coating the underside & it's the yellowy stuff..

Surely if I rub it down with sand paper I'll take off the resin?

I would definitely etch prime it. To abrade it enough would take ages as it's not an even finish. I'd 180 it, then etch it, then stonechip it.

its up to you how you do it,im just trying to save you some pennies and ive been doing it for 12 years.

you dont rub through the resin just scratch the surface and remove any oil grease ect so its got something to hold on to.dont spend hours rubbing through it.just a quick rub. it shouldn't take more than 10 mins to scratch a one piece flip front.

that glass looks very very thin, is that from tdk racing by any chance?.

ABS.

I'll pick up a load of etch primer anyway seeing as I'll need it within the next month & then decide what I'll do tomorrow.

I searched for etch primer & primer but couldn't see any so I asked the bloke and he pointed these out.

So what am I applying to the fibreglass then? Guessing the Simoniz stuff.
