Just wondered if anyone has ever put a steering wheel with a airbag from one of the later mini's ( mpi etc ) into a early mini, I have seen them for sale on ebay and thought it might be a good safety feature or do you all think its a crazy idea.

>_<

Steve. :withstupid:

The column is a different design, a different spline and a different thread. You have to swap the whole column. It has been done but having an un-controlled airbag in your car is a terribly dangerous thing. An airbag is essentially a bomb. If it is not plugged in to an SRS computer then it is not fail-safe. If it goes off at the wrong time, it could very easily kill you.

A few years ago Clarkson wrote in an article that airbags make people believe they will be safe in a crash
and therefore they arent scared of crashing , causing more careless drivers.
His theory was to replace the airbag with a sharp spike that would shoot out upon impact.
According to him crashes would become a thing of the past. Hmmm

I'd imagine Issigonis would agree with that too.

Thanks guys, so the cost and the parts list would be long and expensive, was just thinking of way to help make the car a wee bit safer.

Steve.

Just drive it properly and you'll be safe enough then.

Yeah but what about the person whos not driving carefully who drives into him?

I was considering it aswell, but I just liked the wheel was going to take out the airbag and just have the chunky wheel.

But then coudnt be bothered

Clarksons safety spike would have prevented the person from not driving carefully >_<

Now i remember why i wanted a mini again, it comes with its own comedy club reps :withstupid:

Thanks for all the good and bad points to this thread.

Think i will just buy one of Jordans old fake boobs and stick that in the middle of my steering wheel, that will save me and it will be fun >_<
