No, you dont. Because I've done it twice. Last time I posted up how you do it I got told off in case some 'tard blew themselves up, but it isnt particularly hard or dangerous to do.

Just to make this absolutely clear, The Mini Forum does not recommend or advise anybody to go drilling holes in explosive charges. In fact we very strongly recommend against it. The only truly safe way to isolate an airbag charge is to completely remove it, which leaves half the steering wheel missing as Anorak says. Anything else you choose to do is entirely down to you.

Its quite simple to fit the entire column as many people have done it and you can get covers to fit in the centre of the wheel. Many of them come from display wheels which didnt have an airbag in them. I have had 3 so far, still got one, so they arent too difficult to source, ebay is your best bet.

Marky - I have a complete MPI column if you are want it, let me know and I may be able to drop it round to you.
