Hi everyone,

Ive heard that the Emissions part of the MOT test has changed for older cars (its now less strict),

Can anyone confirm this as true? Ive been offered a full rally / race engine for my 1300 1986 mini and was wondering if a should bother buying it or not.

The seller (a very nice chap) has kindly mentioned that the fuelling on the IDA weber has been set up for high revs, and so consequently may possibly fail an MOT.

Can anyone clarify if the law has changed or not? Or if it hasnt, what the current rules are?

What age is the engine as the test will be on the age of the engine or car what ever is older

The engine was built by Bromsgrove Engine Services about 2 years ago. Its an 1338 A+ Unit with a massive spec, we dont know any more than that (other than its tech spec)

Nothing has changed recently for emissions, last years special notices involved number plates mostly and retouches to existing rules to close loopholes, the nearest i can think of in the special notices is the exhaust noise test has become stricter by changing the wording, it's been changed from excessive noise compared to a similar vehicle (which was easily compared to a similar modified vehicle if you squinted at the rules a bit) to the newly worded excessive noise compared to a similar vehicle with a standard exhaust system. but it has also been added that the test is done at the same engine speeds that the emissions are checked too.
