once you start the appeal they hold the charge at £25 until after the out come

you then have 14 days to pay before it goes up to £50

That's for a parking fine on the public street. A car park is private (even if the owner is the council) and they can charge you whatever they want, whenever they want as long as it states the penalty on the sign.

They don't really make car parks with small spaces any longer, there is a government recommendation on the size of a parking bay (something to do with being able to park a Volvo Estate believe it or not) and they tend not to put smaller spaces in because people only abuse them. Your car could have been causing an obstruction where it was, if there was a lot of congestion in that car park then a bus would have to use most of that space for its swing which is why it's hatched off. you can't say how much congestion there was while you weren't there. That section of Tarmac is marked out in accordance with the road traffic act as somewhere cars may not be, in a private car park they don't have to go to those lengths to prevent you parking. If it's not a bay you shouldn't be there. Despite that they've still marked it out and it is your responsibility as a driver to know what road markings mean. I'm only playing devils advocate and good luck with your appeal but I have a feeling you'll end up paying this.

Awe bless, looks like you've taken this to heart, if you show enough humility and use your photos to show you really were trying to adhere to the spirit of the regulations, and chuck in a hardship plea, maybe they'll let you off with a slapped wrist. Your Mini may well fit in the space without causing an obstruction but they will also want to discourage others who may not. From a safety point of view parking where you did would restrict the vision, and distract other drivers around that corner.

erm it was 1999, not sure he'd still have the orion now- if he does and it's taken him 10 odd years to upgrade with some bonnet stripes-

Well I've written a draft letter and I'm sending in the photos (but maybe not the diagram eh!). Probably a total waste of time and I do agree with you Dan! but I've done it now so lets see how it goes!
