What about mid engine rwd - get plenty of grip for the drag strip.

Just so happens I have an engine/box etc  that could be of use - Honda vtec 2.2 h22a from an imported prelude. As it's the JDM version it's the 197 bhp one, also got lsd gearbox (only available in Japan) and just about everything else you might need - loom, ecu, front hubs, mounts etc. Also as it's cable gear change (like the mgf) you don't have to worry about reversing the gear linkage if you fit it in the back.

Send me a PM if you're interested.

Otherwise how about a Lexus V8? You can pick pick up complete cars quite cheaply these days and are a bit different to what you normally see.

This should be interesting - will be good to see how others handle the problems that im facing. Any idea on a timescale?

dont have the problems of engine size you do

plus engine up front axle at the back should be fairly straight forward

as for time scale know idea other things to do first

Small block chevy mated to a Porsche G50 box with a couple of turbos sequential or at least limit the boost off the line, Not a fantastic idea to unleash 1000+ bhp though a set of 10 inch wide wheels in something around 800kg. I think Ultima use this setup? bar the turbo bit. ofc. If so it certainly works well.

the 2.2 prelude suggestion is a good one. very popular with the honda drag guys as its a heavy lump over the front wheels to aid traction. very cheap too
