Yes thats a good idea actually. I don't like the look of suicide doors but if i was to put them on thats the way i would do them.

Looks odd with the door handle dent, could you not use a new skin but from the opposite door? So the dent would be on the front.

looks like a good plan, might have to look into this....
would the rear quarter be strong enough to hold the weight of the door?

If you was too read earlier posts it says you'd need to add strength. Best way IMO would be too make some sort of box section structure behind the hinges (In the rear bins) That way it would spread the weight rather than there being 'stress' in one specific place

Personnaly i dont think it looks too bad with external hinges but would be better internal.

Just cut it out and weld a patch of metal in there.

or fill it :D

would also need to reverse the way the door openers work, but could use ones from opposite doors i suppose!

there is a guy down south with a hotrod riley elf that has suicide doors he used the mk1 hinge at the back it looks really good. the vdub boys always use ford transit hinges on there suicide door convesions as they are stong but quiet compact. it would also be easier to use mk1 door locks as they are far simpler.

how secure are the mk1 door locks? do they have the double catch mechanism?
don't want the doors flying open when i drive along!!

Yeah they would be secure enough not to come flying open when driving. Like Calman said a few posts up, you would need to strengthen the inside of the bins. And no no filler the handle hole unless you don't know how to weld a plate there instead.
