I thought it was about time I shared with everyone the story of Doris my 1970 Clubman Estate.

Doris was purchased by me in August last year from Tewkesbury after seeing her advertised in MiniWorld. The car used to belong to the owners mother before she died and was always garage stored. When she passed away her son took the car and left it in his garage for 11 years. His wife eventually told him she wanted her garage back and he had to sell her. He would only sell her to someone who was going to restore her and not tear her apart for parts or stick a big engine in. I had every intention of restoring her to her former glory. I keep in touch with the old owner keeping him updated with all that is going on.
Doris got her name from the old owners mother as she cherished the car and it meant so much.

There were a few spooky things that seem this car was meant to come to me... The first being that in the passport to service the first keeper is listed as living at Candy Cottage, this is also the name of the house we live in, so named in memory of my grandad. Another thing was the wooden side trims...those of you who know about early estates will know that the wood trim doesn't come up very often, but on a trip to my local mini supplier my b/f came accross a brand spanking new set with all the chrome trims for a bargain price! I could go on but I don't want to bore you too much! So here are some piccies!

It's a very rare colour now. Mainly becasue Mini's on this era rusted out soooo quickly.

My dad bought a brand new Mini 1000 in 1971... in Aqua Blue :) but it started rusting quite badly by the time it was two years old lol.

Early mk3's = ;D

When I saw the colour I loved it..So unusual in a clubby estate. So glad I decided to keep it original colour and original in every way!

I'd never done anything like it before either. In fact it was supposed to be Doris I was doing it in and not Luna but things didn't quite go to plan! Would love to do it again! I had great fun with my horn, mines really loud too! I had foot ache from the clutch, sometimes it would be easier to have an auto!
Thats a bit sad about the medal, have you spoken to anyone about it as I know SMOC had received a few more from the organisers for people who missed out. Might be worth giving them a shout :)

Update time....

Spent a fortune today at MiniMail on all new window seals, rear door seals, engine hoses, and other bits and bobs. We have been fighting with the side trims for the last few days, trying to get the right drill size for the rivets, but we seem to (touch wood) sorted this so are now well on the way to getting all of these on. The rear lights are on and I have wrapped the wiring loom.

So here's a few piccies:

Brand new side trims, who's a lucky lady?!?

edit: anybody knows what kind of wood it's supposed to be copying?

cheers!
