Well about a year ago I bought a dismantled MG 1275 engine from a lad on here and decided it would become my 1330 project after I alredy fitted a 1275 into Frankie.

I sold the head and cam to fund machine work and am pleased to finally annouce the build is under way!! ;)

So on 25/09/08 I dropped my block, crank, pistons, cam etc to the machine shop for it all to be balanced, bored, ground and checked over (all new bearings to be measured fitted too).

Time went by and I didn't like to pester the guy as it was a mates rates kind of arrangemnt through my uncle. But i picked it all back up a week ago.

But he did explain theat when he faced the block he noticed a crack between 2 and 3 - obviously not good. So he put it back on the mill and decided to mill a bit off, didn;t work, milled again, didn't work - then he started to get worried. Milled it a 3rd time and the crack disappeared. So just to make sure he milled it a 4th time and all is well :)

Time to fit the pistons then - disaster as now the pistons hit tdc above the face of the block :) - no worries he says i will machine the pistons too :)

(notice lack of part numbers etc)

So the block and pistons have been decked 15 thou as well - slightly upping my CR - can only be good lol!

And the guy had built it all up as well!! Apparently he always does to check things out.

Good luck with the build. What cam and head u going for?

Are you going to work out the Compression Ratio before build? Too high and you might need fuel octane boosters etc

There is going to be a Morspeed Ph3 cam and a mildly ported head for now till i can afford a stage 3 one.

Dunno how to work out compression ratios though :) - but i can't see it being that much different can it?

Yeah it can. Skimmed a few thou off can change it alot.

You need to measure afew things to work it out.

Ive gone for the same cam in my 1380 build, with a stg 4 head.

Ive added a spreadsheet i was emailed from turbominis. You need to work out the values and fill in the boxes on the lower left hand side. Fill in the yellow boxes with your values and the red box will tell you the CR.

Typical values for a standard engine are shown on the top right. Thats reference material only, so you need to physically measure yours using burettes etc..

No guide, but AC DODD says this on the PH3.

I would time this cam at 108 degrees after top dead centre full lift on number 1 intake.

AC

But i dont know what morspeed say, as i didnt get any documents with mine.

Thanks Jordie - putting it in those words makes it suddenly make sense to me :D (108 sounds right as there is a cam thread on here i saved to laptop at home giving full details) >_<
