Anyone want to guess how much it cost??
Full rebuild with new bearings (old ones had bits missing apparently) and new synchros. Also fitted centre oil pick up and comp diff pin.
Woohoo - that has brightned my day and emptied my pockets!

Had a day off work last week and got the cam timed in and stuff (lots of patience required)

The gearbox came back last Friday with a price tag of £325, but all the bearing cases were split and totally shafted, the diff pin had 1mm worth of wear from the planet wheels!! The guy that rebuilt it said he'd never seen one so bad!!

So after a week of evening fannying about with endfloat clearances (which all turned out ok with me only having to buy a new c-clip and primary washer thingy) I took the stpes of mating the block to the gearbox.

right way up:

ooooooo vernier

modified timing cover

Next problem is my flywheel and back plate, flywheel has inertia 107 tooth ringear - boo and back plate is scored

Do i just buy new and not tell the wife

Andyb - machining was done by a place called Evendens Engineering in Sutton Valence just outside of Maidstone, and the gearbox was rebuilt by Forge Engineering in Ulcombe.
Both at mates rates

New flywheel as old one had wrong starter gear and backplate was fudged..

Old engine stripped

Handy box of bits..

New flywheel lapped onto crank

Engine built and gaps set

Posh flywheel cover (from shifty)

Old engine on it's way out

Bay cleaned ready for new lump

Hopefully weather permitting I will be able to lay the new lump in and replace the leaking clutch master cylinder and maybe get it fired up, got a weird feeling of excitement and worry as I have put a lot of time and money into this build............
