1982:
Shortly after failing its MOT (it hadn't been running properly for a few months - however was still drivable as i drove it to the MOT!) i got it back and literally 10 yards from my drive the gears stopped working. It was as though it grabbed onto the gear (1st) and wouldn't let it go, despite the clutch being down. So pushed it the rest of the way later managed to get it out of gear with a fair amount of effort, but now it still wont go into gear, starts and runs fine, but wont go into anything by reverse.

Any suggestions?
And how much this might cost to fix if outside help is needed? (My technical skills are very limited, and i'm a student, and this is more of a restoration project than a runner at the minute, but it shouldnt be much to fix, this is just a new problem that has developed since i bought it.

This is my first post by the way so Hi! and sorry if this has been mentioned prior to this, i searched but could not find any such topic.

any idea which gear its stuck in..it will give me some idea what the problem is....

There could be several things ...........

Clutch knackered..

loose roll pin in gear shift..

no fluid in clutch resovior..

chutch slave cylinder leaking..

take a look ................

i second what mk1 leg sais never force a car into or out of a gear you can damage the gears or syncro
