Thats some nice fault finding there Roo(for a bird as well)!!
Congratualations!!
I don't think Halfords will sell the proper jobbie, however I should imagine it would be ok to replace with one of their standard fused links.
You go Roo!!!

Glad you found it Roo - but obviously what i was texting you wasn't the answer you wanted. Fit a normal inline fuse as said abopve and see if it IS the problem.
i've just connected it up without a fuse and the car started.
i need to find a fuse link now so i can have her running perminantly
THe fuse hadn't blown, the wire had broken just where the wire comes out of the fuse on the fuse box side of it.

So the wire broke off the terminal on the back of the fuse box is that what your saying? Anyway for finding it a fixing it - im sure someone on here will be able to point you towards a fuseable link or have one they can give you.

Glad it is sorted.

no the wire broke just after the fusable link.. which is no where near the fuse box... I knew the fusebox was fine.
the fuseable link it between the fusebox and the starter motor.. so to describe where the break was, one side will be starter motor side... the other fusebox side.... It was the fuse box side where the wire broke.
I would take a picture but i've cut the fused link off now and crimped it temporarily

Thats really good news! If the link had burned out then the worry would be finding the cause.

The fuseable link wiring is designed to behave like a fuse, sometimes they just blow, so by replacing it should be fine

sorry mis-read your initial post - an inline fuse will be fine Roo and means you can use the car for work tomorrow etc.

I don't need the car tomorrow... plus i'd need to purchase the inline fuse wiring/connector etc... when its easier to wait for an actual fusable link.
Plus as its a 12v supply I don't think the 10 amp would cut it... I think It would blow straight away.
