i have set the pressure to 3.5ish psi. it was at 9psi when i checked it. forgive my ignorance but not that clued up on the carb situation , hence the question and trawling the net.
if i turn the ignition on and remove the dash pot( unscrewing the black cap from the top) what should i be looking for?
cheers

you need to remove the 3 screws from around the bottom edge of the dashpot - they might even be tamper proof screws if it's original and untouched. you can then lift off the pot and piston. Be careful that the piston doesn't drop out on the floor: if you remove the damper first, black bit you mentioned, the piston should stay sat on the carb.

thanks ethel. yeah i know the screws you mean. i have taken this offf other carbs and the piston stays in the dashpot and lifts the needle with it too. they are tamper proof screws too. like allen bolts but ill get them off somehow. so when this is taken off you should see the valve opening where the needle slides into , right?
what should i be lloking for here i.e fuelk flowing out etc. thanks again.

You'll just see the top off the jet, blowing down the vent pipe should cause some petrol to appear out of it. There's every chance the carb is pretty gummed up if it's being sat for 20 years with old fuel in it.

No problem. I can supply a rebuild kit & fully overhaul your carb for £60, if that's any good.

Cheers
Phil.
