im 17 in April and have begun to shop around for insurance
everywhere i go in Mini terms everyonme says Footman James are the best people, but i've looked and apparently you have to be 25 for them to insure you?!
ive got a 1989 Austin Mini Mayfair - 998cc.
Desperately need some suggestions!
The cheapest quote ive found is £1600 and theres no way I can afford that!
Thanks
Alex

Providing your mini is fairly standard, you shouldnt have trouble getting it for under a grand. Mine's about £800 ish on my dad's policy, for a 998cc city e. Best thing to do is to have a look around probably, there's also some other topics on here if you have a search.

Best thing to do to keep it cheap is to get one you parents to insure it, and put you down as a named driver. Ok, you won't accrue no claims this way, but it's going to be cheaper in the sort term.

I'm 20 and pay £300 a year doing it this way on a 998.

yes i rang footman and james and yes a waist of my time to. im with sure term direct, its advertised in most mini mags. i pay £875 as a provisional driver for my mk1 with a 998. this allso comes down by atleast a £100 when i pass. how ever i am a named driver with my mum aswel and my dads the policy holder.

I posted something on here about FJ :http://www.theminifo...howtopic=114135

I'll paste it on this one (easier ).

Footman james will only put you on a classic policy (no NCB) until your 25 (i think) then you are allowed a normal policy, to be honest I'd go classic policy because the premiums dont drop much until your 21/25 even with NCB's. Woman from post office insurance told me that!

Paul.

just personnal experiance but the best deal i could get for my daughter at 17 was the post-office insurance.

she did have a bump in her first year (which they sortted with no hassle) and this year because of her history it was actually cheaper to get her fully comp on her 998 (around £600)

I'm not a fan of going on mummy and daddies insurance, because it stops you building up your own no-claims, and if you do have a knock it may have reprocussions on those policies and make it more expensive for all in the long run.

they got my insurance down to 700 pounds
first car first time driver
might be worth giving them a call as i was in the same boat as you a few months ago
