Ok guys, really struggling now to find car insurance for a 1380cc Mini.

As soon as I click the modification button they seem to want half the value of my house as a deposit.

What REALLY annoys me is that when I have to click the "new engine" or "modified" button, they don't even ask what :D ing engine it is. How can they possibly even give me a quote? I might be putting a 5.9 litre Scimitar engine in it or some sort of hamster powered elastic band engine.

Here the best bit...I'm 19. Does this mean I have to keep my 1275....and the same colour.....and the same alloys....and the same brakes......and the same suspension untill I'm about 58 or is there any insurance company who won't automatically add about £1000 for the fun of it? I've been driving nearly 3 years, had an 02 1.8 tdi Focus since I started out with no claims. Is there not anywhere?

Makes me cry at night.

p.s. before anyone says....

1. "your only 19"
2. "leave the car alone, it didnt hurt you"
3. "its young drivers that crash, thats why"
4. "its all done on stastistics so thats why"
5. "whats a Scimitar"

....I am aware. Oh and a Scimitar is a tank.

Wow, rant over sorry lol

Try Footman James. I'm on a classic policy with them - Cheap as chips for my age.

When i said i'd be converting from a 998 to a 1275 they quoted it'd only go up £100 on my premium - Which i was pretty chuffed with.

my mate is 19 and has a 1380, the only way he could get insurance for it, was to have it under his dads name and him a named driver with footman james! their fleet insurance wanted a engineers report before they would even look at him!

Thanks mate will do.

I got a quote for like £1800 for a 1999 Cooper that had been re-sprayed, new alloys, new brakes and new engine. It's like £600 at the moment. I took the engine modification off to see what would happen and it went to £1600. They make it up.

The vehicle:
• Is over 15yrs of age

No-one who will drive the vehicle on this insurance:
• Is under 25 years of age.

The vehicle:
• Has not been modified from the manufacturer's standard specification.

Fell on the first hurdle there lol

It doesn't really matter what anybody else pays to be honest - Its you they'll be quoting and they take allsorts into consideration.

Footman james don't do quotes on the internet unless its just a standard car and your over 25.

Im 18 with plenty of mods on my car and im insured with them on a classic policy.

Footman james will only put you on a classic policy (no NCB) until your 25 (i think) then you are allowed a normal policy, to be honest I'd go classic policy because the premiums dont drop much until your 21/25 even with NCB's. Woman from post office insurance told me that!

Im with footman james, have been for 2 years. £450 it cost me this year... they dont mind what mods you do, so any wheels, any seats, a rollcage and brake setup, they dont mind... i rang up and said can i put a fibreglass front on? they put me on hold and i though uh oh premium increase! but they just said, ill make a note that you are going to... lol

i might have to go to 1275 if its only £100 more!!

FJ may well drop the under 25 drivers as they've been bought by AON.

as for the insurance dropping when you hit 21/25 that has always been a myth !!

as you've discovered insurance on the internet is a waste of time, the only way you get anything sensible is on the phone. Footman james and HIC have always been good for me. Eg I had to get a new policy a few weeks ago, online the best I got was £400ish (ha ha), called footman james they covered me on a classic policy, unlimited mileage, all mods including engine swap, for just over £100.

I had this problem insuring my mini, im sure insurance companies have got something against them.

Im 19.. paid £1467 for my 998cc modded mini, (12G295 head, alloys, tints, sound system.. etc), this failed MOT so i sold it on. Ive now got a

1.7 turbo diesel vauxhall astra estate.. I pay £390 :D

I also have a 2.0 litre ford capri... I pay £790 :)

I dunno wht it is with minis but how you can pay more for a 998cc mini than for a 2.0 Ford Capri i will never know, maybe its because the Capri is so quick you miss all the accidents!
