evening, my metro 310 van 1275 a plus is great but a problem has started
i top up the dashpot & within 2 days it has emptied.
where is the oil going & is this why the car stalls when i dip the clutch when slowing down?
thanks in advance

do you remoe the piston rod when topping it up? - try just unscrewing the cap and without removing (only move it to the side) - top up the oil to the top of the inner tube... then screw the cap back on.

yes i do remove the piston completely, i thought thats what you were meant to do, what difference will it make if i just move it to the side & then add the oil? thanks for reply.

when you pull the piston out - more often than not oil gets pulled up with it and escapes past the tube..

owner then thinks "oo wheres that oil gone" - fills it up to the brim.. spends 5 minutes trying to push the piston back in...

then repeat the next time its checked...

yes, but if i fill it to the brim & gently refit the piston, wont that mean that the oil level is full? thats what i,ve been doing but the whole thing is empty in 2 days or 100 miles. i still don't understand !!

I have same problem, my dashpot oil goes somewhere, then I start stalling at junctions, so I top it up, and all fine for a week or so. :S

Could it be the piston damper is leaky? Ive swapped it for another, and still the same problem

there is no rubber diaphragm in there somewhere like a stromberg carb, or what can wear out & cause the problem, my starter motor is getting annoyed as i'm using it loads lately !

same problem here, only get about 100 miles before it needs topping up again, even changed the carb for a reconditioned one and that does the same. i have a few mates that have the same problem as well, its confused the lot of us as other people we know very rarely top theres up.

i used to use engine oil in the old carb, but then i changed to atf(automatic transmission fluid) as recomended by a experienced mini specialist when it went in for some engine work, and thats all i've ran the new carb on but still it disappears.
