Run Out Of Room For My Filter!

MG Metro inlet Manifold
Carb spacer
Heat-shields
Associated gaskets
Simota filter (K&N Copy from Jonspeed)
The problem is that I'm fitting this in a Minus, so effectively the carb sits 3 inches or so higher in the engine bay than standard, with the dashpot poking a little under an inch above the bonnet line. The carb goes on fine, (Well the water-heated jacket bit needs grinding down to clear the rocker cover to sit tight against the manifold gasket, but no biggy) but it doesn't leave enough room for my filter to go on because the scuttle panel comes through the top inch or so of the filter if that makes sense.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Is there a smaller filter I can fit, or an airbox/intake type arrangement that would move the filter?
Can I get a smaller carb spacer to move the carb a bit closer to the engine?
Is there a shorter manifold that would help?
I'm thinking airbox thing, but I hate pointless induction kits! LOL
HELP!

is this a filter that fits in the standard air box or replacement

got any pictures ?

No pictures but I can do a good description if there's something specific you're wondering? The filter is a K&N Cone filter copy, looks exactly the same size. The issue isn't the filter though, it's the Minus body shell being shorter.

it's not as deep as a cone one and doesn't stick up any higher than the carb

hey. arent those pancake filters a bit shallower than the cone filters? one of those might fit a bit better?

Possibly, though I think I would still need to shorten the total length of the induction slightly. I'm going to grind this manifold so that it clears the rocker cover, then try and get a picture. Worst-case I'll make a miglia-esque induction box so i can move the filter I think, but keep the ideas coming!

don't know if he got as far as putting a engine into it but you could PM him for ideas

Here's a picture of his engine bay... you can just make out how the air filter is attached ( think it's actually upside down ) and yes his dashpot does poke out the bonnet.

It was intenionaly designed for a HS carb, but can be machined to fit a HIF (hence the oval holes).

You could attach a hose and run it to a filter located elsewere.
What intake manifold do you use? Some aftermarket items are 'lower' than the Rover CAM6613.
Or maybe you can get a 'deeper' custom made steel manifold to bring down the carb (a HS6 would allow more lowering, thought), maybe there's enough space together with the Inno inlet then?

I've just about got the manifold ground down to fit, I can get the filter's base plate on, then I can get a K&N Element over the top of it (with it's end cap removed), I can probably get the end cap on too at an absolute squeeze, then maybe even manage to get it bolted in place. I'm not so sure I could get the end cap off very easily though!!
What do you think? If I get it on, will it ever come off again?
Is there a thinner spacer I can use, or could I drop the spacer? I'd definitely be able to get the filter on then, but the spacer is important isn't it?
Cheers!

How about machining down the SU dashpot so it doesn't stick out of the bonnet?
You could also have an adaptor plate machined up so the carb sits at a different angle?

Changing the angle might work, but I'd like a simple fix!
