I took my manifold to my local friendly machine shop and they faced both flanges down to 8mm thick . I've got a total face to face size of 62mm, they also machined the insulation block down to 8mm thick, ( remember you've got to modify the studs on the carb side, they will now be to long and will foul on the carb body) Another dodge is an adjustable engine steady, with a bit of fiddling and watching the strain and angles you put on the exhaust this will give you a little bit more clearance from the bulkhead.
Mine has been on for over ten years now with no trouble or damage

- Different manifold
- thinner spacer (no spacer means the throttle cam to catch on the manifold)
- different angle (machined manifold flange on head w/ accordingly mirrored/machined faces for manifold nuts),
might work with a Maniflow LCB for injection engines (is a little lower, hence more space for a lower manifold) and cut/bend heatshield

Hmm - looks like there's no 'easy' solution... :shifty:

For the angled inlet maybe ask here:

I think I can just about get the filter on actually now I've trial fitted it. It's going to be very tight, but I can nibble the edge of the scuttle panel a tiny bit if necessary, think it'll just about pop on and then maybe it'll come off again if required....... maybe! I have five cones, so if need be I can cut them off to remove.

If it turns out I can't get the end of the filter on, I'll sand a spare spacer down and hope for the best!

Right, need some gaskets and maybe a little fuel pipe and a throttle cable, so I might pop down to Moss in the morning.........

Have a look at the howley/torquemaster type inlets, the carb sits lower than the MG metro it might give you a bit more bonnet clearance.

Also what about a trumpet and filter sock.

I may have one of the torquemaster inlets laying around i`ll check it for size against MG type for you
