hey
recently my head gasket went and i am in the process of fixing that.
My head has been skimmed.
I looked at the block face today and it is covered in rusty deposits etc and grime.
how do i clean this etc??

get a paint scraper the type with a stanley blade in and go over the block with that, be carefull not to dig into the block with the blade, that will get most off.
or just use a stanley blade, with some tape over the blunt end, it still hard on the fingers though.

you could use a degreaser to clean up the block a little, then use a wire brush to remove the flaking rust

Gunk is pretty good stuff to use as well!

Some 1200 grade sand paper lightly over it normally does the finer bits of gunk and grime stuck to it.
If doing this, Put some rags down the bores so any swarf doesnt drop into the cylinders/pistons/piston rings.
