I'm looking at rebuilding and engine. A mate has a spare injection 1275.

I was wondering if its easy to convert a injection engine to a carb engine. Is it as straight forward as taking off a few sensors and replacing the injectors for a carb set up?

Thanks in advance,

Jason

Well, if I get the gist of the question right... your car is currently a carb'ed model and you want to asses the possibility of putting the injection engine in instead of the current unit ???

If so, apart from pillaging your current engine for the carb, exhaust and Dizzy then it's a pretty much straight swap...

One thing you will have to do is drill and tap the head for the water temp sender ( unless you have all the bits from the original injection car like rad, electric fan etc ), and depending upon the heater pipe arrangements also drill the head for the heater take off..

Apart from that there's very little which distinguishes the Spi engine from the Carb

If however the engine is an Mpi, then you're into a whole different ball game as you don't have anywhere for the dizzy to poke into :shifty:

I'm just looking at building an engine and as the injection unit is going to be free... I wanted to then convert it to a carb model. I thought it maybe a no brainer... but I may need some brains to do it!

Literally want to start from a short block essentially, then start looking into machining etc afterwards. With the head I was thinking to just get a stage 3 head that had everything already there.

So from what Mr Guess is saying, just get the injection unit and start searching the TMF for injection to carb subjects!? I'll set a budget and a deadline!
