Is there any adjustment in the door striker plate. As when i close my near side door it hits the striker plate and is forced downwards slightly.

I'm pretty certain that you loosen the two screws just enough to allow the plate to be moved in whichever direction is needed.
The bar on the lock is supposed to be central in the slot in the door latch iteself.
