A samll drift/roll pin punch the same diameter as the pin.
Don't try a nail - they are too soft and usually get stuck (I tried this once out of desperation when someone 'borrowed' my drift and failed to return it as they 'lost' it :-

Mini Spares Gear Selector Roll Pin Punch Tool. Item no - Tool 17. £2.50 ex vat. £2.88 inc vat.

Was going to remove mine tommorrow as well... are they the same as parrell pin punches or not (sorry if this is stupid question don't want to damage my tools or the pins)

Cheers,

A parallel pin punch will be flat ended, a roll pin punch has a stepped nose that locates inside the pin and stops the punch jumping around as you strike it. Both will work but the roll pin punch will be easier. Whatever you use make sure it is flat where it drives the pin, if you use a tapered or sharp ended drift or punch it will spread the roll pin as you hit it and only cause the pin to hold on tighter.

I've not used one, but I think that the proper pin punch had a smaller nib which fits in the hole of the roll pin to locate it and the shoulder of the punch is what pushes the pin through.
