as title says really , im just about to fit a stage one kit but it doesnt come with k&n or needle , the main reoson for fitting this kit is i hate the std exhaust flange and my std manifold has slight crack and im using loads of fuel . but will it still run ok with my standard air box and std needle. i dont mind buying and fitting these if not but want to try and keep the intake noise down

a lot of people do still use the std air box with a k&n element type filter, there was a thread a while ago showing where to cut some holes to increase the air flow on the box. The std needle is fine to use but will need a bit of filing doing to get it running right but that will probably be sorted out by who ever you to take it to for your rolling road session after you've fitted the kit.

hope that helps you a bit

So it's not a Stage 1 kit, as this would include needle & filter.

I used to run a similar setup (LCB exhaust manifold, RC40 silencer and alloy inlet w. std. paper filter) - it never ran good. nor was ewll tunable.
I can't reacll the needle I used for that...

Anyways, the std. needle is no good for you setup. You should get a K&N replacement filter (fits in original air box) and the needle included in the stage 1 kit. I remeber that being AAU(?) if yours is a 998cc engine. That's a full Stage 1 kit then and prooved to be a god setup.

Not really a kit though without the needle or filter ??
Was it parts you brought seperate or was it advertised as a kit, the kits Ive seen advertised come with filter and needle.
