I have checked the ignition switch, this gives out a positive feed when the engine is being cranked over, but the live on the coil goes dead as soon as the starter kicks in.

anyone any ideas????

Faulty ballast resisiter? by pass it by running a wire from and ignition live on the fuse box directly to the coil.

I know the immobiliser was the fault here but just clearing up the misleading statement above.

don't just byepass the faulty ballast with a straight 12v feed, unless you also replace the coil for a non ballasted coil..
