As above, I think you may need a new cable from the fusebox to the garage, installed by a qualified electrician.

If it goes underground it should be armoured and shielded.
If it goes above ground it should be in suitable weatherproof trunking.

Please don't think I'm trying to put a downer on things, I have a similar issue, everytime I squeeze the trigger on my welder the lights in the farm house 50 metres away flicker, as do the neighbours, (about 1/4 of a mile away).

Problem there is all power from a single fuseboard on the farm and both the farm and neighbours share a single overhead cable. for about 2miles.

Thanks for the info guys.

Yes I had alook at the generators and I would need a fairly big one over 4kva to do a good job, so I dont have that money to buy a generator.
Yes the welder is brand new, came with out a plug, its a power craft arc welder from Aldi's, sure some people have seen them or bought one. Any one got one? is it any good?

And yes it is ok to fit a 13amp plug up to 65v on the welder, so I didnt go over there.

Thanks bungle, I was wondering that about the wire size, will speak to a friend whos an electrian when ever he is about.

Thanks
