Engine is all out now, Most of it is knackered, although I seem to have one of the better cranks which has put a smile on my face if only for 10 minutes.

Anyways, The Pistons I have are 20831a but I can't find any rings for them and also the main shells are they uprated or can standard 1275 shells be used?

Sorry for all the Questions

I suspect that the rings are for std pistons for the age of car, therefore just ask for those rings....

The shells you requre will depend on the condition of you mains and big ends on the crank... check them or get them checked with a micrometer, for both size and ovaling.... anymore than a couple of thou off and you'll need a regrind...

the std 1275 shells should be ok

*edit* read again...

Turbo Pistons.... and therefore Turbo shells required, I think the lower shell has the tab in a different place, look at you main cap and that'll make it obvious.

If you're struggling to find piston rings, try these guys... www.ultrapartsltd.co.uk

according to their lists the piston rings for a std metro turbo are as follows...

1st: 1.50 mm
2nd: 1.50 mm
3rd: 3.00 mm
Bore DIA : 70.61 mm
Hepolite Ref: R41570
Ultraparts Ref: RS302

The turbo main bearing shells should have a plain bottom shell and a grooved top shell. The con rod bearings are the same as every other big journal 1275 engine. As GuessWorks said, the bottom plain bearing has a central locating notch which is different from the standard grooved bearing which has an offset notch. It is believed that the plain bottom bearing has an 80% increase in load carrying capabilities.

As for the rings minispares list them but don't know how the cost compares with anywhere else http://www.minispare....aspx?pid=34929

I rung up mini spares and as a word of warning to anyone else that has turbo pistons and wants rings, these are only suitable for a certain piston type. When I asked them about my piston type they said that they have a backlog of orders and that I would be waiting 6-8 weeks and even then they couldn't promise me that it wouldn't be longer.

I spoke to Ian at Avonbar yesterday and he said that the piston rings for these pistsons were dis-continued over 2 years ago!

I do however have a set coming today courtesy of an engine recondintioner who is gonna make up a custom set for them.

So all is not lost yet.

Thank you for the Help though Guys much appreciated.

Oh ekers  I'll be after a set of these in the next couple of months.

Have you noticed though that the link that GuessWorks posted shows the turbo rings to be exactly the same part as the standard rings. This cannot be right  can it

I bought mine from this place, They were superb, took the piston kept it overnight and next day the rings were here.

in total they come out at 71.85 which is slightly above what normal rings are, but in this case the extra was worth it after spending 2 days ringing round to be told there no longer made or there is a 2 month waiting list.

When it comes round to you needing them, give me a shout and I can go down there and collect them and send them onto you if you like.
